Club Championships

Okay... so this last weekend was National Club Fencing Championships in Indiana.

I didn't really want to go, because it was a twelve hour bus ride away, and would take from 9 pm Friday to noon on Monday.  But it ended up being really fun.  Here's a short breakdown:

-Instead of sending us a normal small bus, they sent a limo bus.  Like, with seats facing each other, and fancy colored lights on the walls.  So none of us were able to sleep on the way there.  We left at around 10 pm, got to Indiana at around 10 AM, and we started fencing tired, sore, and kinda grumpy.

-Before we got on the highway, some people made a stop to get some alcohol.  So... some people started fencing tired, sore, and hung over.

-We did pretty well in pools on the first day, all three teams making it into the direct eliminations.  I got stabbed and cut on the neck from a chipped, rusty foil.  With any luck, it will heal into a cool-looking scar and I won't get tetanus.

-Encountered girls at the motel.  They called our room phone.  Longda Yin invited them into our limo bus, indicating that there "may or may not be alcoholic beverages."  To his horror, they seemed willing to do so, so he hung up.
(As a side note, apparently having a limo bus is a very effective way of attracting girls.  That is, if you're into what Ari Cuenin affectionately refers to as 'F. Dubs.")

-Ate dinner at some kind of steakhouse, and it was delicious.  Ari Cuenin was delighted to discover that a pitcher of beer was only  $6.50

-Slept.

-Fenced for another day.  Ended up 12th out of 40ish in foil.  13th overall.  Kinda disappointing.

-Our departure was delayed 3 hours because Longda can't keep his shit together and lost his wallet.

-Drove 12 more hours.  I slept on the floor.

-Got home, missed most of my classes.

That is all.

I'm moving.

I've known about this for a while and basically haven't told anyone, because I've been trying to avoid thinking about it.  But my dad accepted a job offer in Taiwan, and we're moving this summer.

I guess I knew things were going to change in college.  I just always expected to be able to go home to a familiar environment.  During winter break, being back in Bridgewater felt almost like college had never happened.  Thats probably not going to happen anymore.

Its not the worst thing that could happen.  Cornell's not too far... come visit me.  Or maybe sometimes I'll be able to make it down to NJ.

Even if I never see some of you guys again, its been a fun couple of years.  I'll miss everyone.

Peace.
